Samples of insects or plants suspected to have insect issues can be submitted to the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) Entomology Laboratory for analysis and identification. Please follow the instructions to create an Entomology Sample Submission form and submit samples.

Sampling and Submission Instructions

Samples may be submitted as physical specimens and/or uploaded photographs through the online submission form.
Please note:
  • Samples collected from vacuum cleaners, clothing, or directly from the body will not be accepted.
  • While photographs are accepted, the most accurate identifications are made from physical specimens. Whenever possible, we encourage submitting a preserved specimen.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) does not provide pest control recommendations, endorse specific products, or prescribe treatment plans. If treatment is necessary, we strongly recommend contacting a Nevada-licensed and certified pesticide applicator or pest management professional for appropriate guidance and services.
Submission Form Guidelines:
  • Submit one form per sample. If you have multiple samples, each must be submitted with its own form.
  • After submitting the form, print a copy and include it with your physical sample.
  • If uploading photos, use the Attach Files feature provided in the form.

Confirmation of Acceptable Specimen



The NDA Entomology Lab provides identification of arthropods, including insects and related organisms, submitted by the public, agricultural producers, and government agencies. The lab’s services are limited to the identification of arthropod specimens and do not include testing for human or animal diseases.
The lab does not accept nor have the capability to process non-entomological materials or unrelated substances, including but not limited to: materials from human bodies or clothing, vertebrate animals or pets, building materials, environmental debris without visible arthropods, animal nests, droppings, remains, household waste, or unknown substances or powders (with or without strong odor) submitted for purposes other than arthropod identification.
The NDA Entomology Lab does not accept any human-derived samples, including skin, hair, clothing, bodily waste, or similar materials. Individuals with concerns involving potential medical or dermatological conditions should seek evaluation from a licensed medical professional.
* I confirm that the sample submitted is an arthropod specimen intended for identification and does not contain any unacceptable materials as outlined above. I understand that any samples determined to be non-entomological or otherwise unacceptable will not be processed and may be discarded at the discretion of the NDA Entomology Lab.
